IMW handles the collections management and care of the estate of artist Gilroy Roberts (1905-1992) for the Community College of Philadelphia. Gilroy Roberts served as Chief Engraver of the US Mint from 1948-1964. Most famous for his portrait of President John F. Kennedy, featured on the Kennedy half-dollar, Roberts later worked in the private sector for the Franklin Mint. His estate includes animal sculptures and plaster engravings for U.S. Presidential coins, bird medallions, and the signs of the zodiac. Numerous examples of Roberts’s work can be found on view in the Mint Building on the campus of the Community College of Philadelphia.
